Overview: What is PRP for Hair?

PRP (Plasma Rich Platelet) is used in many medical and surgical fields (orthopedic surgery, cosmetic surgery, burns, etc.). It is a simple and minimally invasive procedure, which consists of injecting a quantity of the patient's plasma (autologous injection). PRP injection into the hair is a scalp injection technique that aims to directly provide growth factors to the hair.

The purpose of this technique is to help densify weakened or miniaturized hair and promote rapid regrowth. It can also be used after a hair transplant.

This technique is intended for men and women. It does not require prior anesthesia.

PRP applied to hair is often associated with LED photobiomodulation (or LLLT: Low Level Laser Therapy). This is a low-energy laser that will potentiate the action of the injection.

How are PRP injections performed?

This procedure involves injecting a defined quantity of PRP directly into the scalp using a very fine sterile needle.

What are the steps of the session?

A simple blood sample is taken. Then, the nurse initiates blood centrifugation to isolate the formed elements of the blood (a few minutes). Finally, the PRP is carefully recovered. After rigorous asepsis of the hair, the procedure can begin. The duration of the session may vary depending on the size and difficulty of the area to be treated, but never exceeds 30 minutes. After the injections, the patient benefits from the LED session which lasts approximately 25 minutes depending on the chosen medical protocol. Several sessions are recommended as an attack treatment (generally 2 to 3 sessions, at intervals of 30 days). Then, maintenance sessions are recommended (1 per semester). In all cases, the treatment and follow-up are always personalized.
